Does Switching to E-Cigarettes Make Your Body Any Healthier?

A majority of people nowadays is heavily addicted to cigarettes and their goal is to quit. Every generation has an invention which defines it. The internet was one, and then came cell phones. Electronic cigarettes are another one of those inventions that is popular right now, but it has also ignited a firestorm of debate and controversy. There is a specific purpose of electronic cigarettes, which is to provide an alternate to the stench spreading, burning and ash produced by normal cigarettes.

There is no doubt that the human body begins the repair process as soon as a person quits smoking. But what are the consequences and implications of giving up conventional cigarettes in favor of electronic cigarettes? Does it make your body healthier? You may end up disappointed because according to medical research, the answer is not clear.

Scientists do not have enough data to get conclusive results. This was stated in the surgeon general report. On the one hand, the CDC has launched a slew of campaigns detailing the negative effects of e-cigarettes on human health. The campaign featured women who engaged in smoking both conventional and e-cigarettes and suffered consequences like collapsed lung at the age of just 34.

On the other hand, some researchers in this area are warning people about misconstruing the message. According to them, people who switched to e-cigarettes and vape liquid reported that their blood vessels began to clear up. One thing the medical experts are sure about is that quitting smoking in all forms is great for a person’s health. However, for millions of people who are addicted to conventional cigarettes, the idea of e-cigarettes has become an acceptable norm.

Addiction experts and researchers claim that it is hard to reach a consensus on e-cigarettes, as they vary significantly, depending on the specific brand. The juice contained in e-cigarettes, which is called ‘’vape liquid”, varies among different brands. This is one of the reasons why FDA is considering regulating this product.

E-cigarettes use differing mechanisms for delivering nicotine. Some deliver nicotine in regular streams with respect to dosage. Users can also customize nicotine dosage. Because of this, the discussion of scientific researches on e-cigarettes has become a fad. In a sense, it is a wild research, which lacks benchmark ingredients that researchers can study.

However, there is one encouraging study which reveals that in the long run, e-cigarettes are less harmful to lung function as compared to conventional cigarettes as e-cigarettes do not produce burning smoke. The result is there is less carbon monoxide exhalation when you opt for e-cigarettes rather than traditional cigarettes. But some studies have countered this argument by claiming that the chemicals in e-cigarette juice can be equally harmful for the human body.

A research conducted in February 2015 at the University of Rochester showed that flavors and aerosols in e-cigarette juice cause significant damage to lung cells. Another campaign launched by the CDC tries to get this message across: Smoking e-cigarettes and traditional cigarettes simultaneously is a terrible idea, which you should not consider.

Some healthcare and addiction experts do not want individuals who are addicted to conventional cigarettes to be dissuaded from making a switch to the electronic alternative. Doctors usually report that switching to e-cigarettes helps with clearing up blocked arteries and is also good for heart health.

For people who are considering switching from conventional cigarettes to e-cigarettes, the verdict on whether there are tangible and significant benefits to their health of making the switch is still in the pipeline. It is a provocative question on which researchers are spending millions of dollars to get results that are more conclusive.
