Everyday vaping: What Social Rules should you follow?

Vaping is still a relatively new trend. One of the major pulls of vaping to smokers and non-smokers alike, is the ability to do it anywhere, anyime. It's a great way to relax, and because vaping is nowhere near as harmful as bad habits like smoking cigarettes, there are no laws governing where we can or cannot do it. However, that doesn't mean we can freely disregard other people. Like everything we do in public, we need to be considerate and follow the unwritten rules that accompany activities like vaping. For someone new to the vape world, this can be perplexing and may even dissuade them from vaping in public. Don't be dismayed... we have you covered. Here's our quick quide to vaping etiquette so you can vape in quiet confidence.

No tobacco, so you can vape anywhere. Right?

Not quite. While it's true that vaping doesn't really pose a health risk and there's no tar or tobacco, some people simply don't like it. Just because there's no risk of second hand smoke doesn't mean the people around you aren't going to mind vape clouds eclipsing them mid conversation. It's about good manners.

Home is, and will always be, the best place to vape. You can vape in comfort, experiment with different mods and flavours and you have easy access to charge points should you need them. What's more, vaping doesn't produce tobacco clouds so all of your fixutres and furnishings will stay clean and unstained, and the smell won't linger for more than a few minutes. Naturally, if you're inviting guests around, check that it's okay with them first. Some people are still unsure about vaping and many don't even realise what it is or how it works.

If you want to drive and vape, you still can in the UK. A law recently passed that forbids smoking in cars, but this doesn't apply to vaping yet. However, just because you can doesn't mean you should. If you like big clouds when vaping this can impact visibility, and high PG-based juices can leave faint temporary residue on the windscreen which also hinder visibility. Be smart. We'd advise against vaping and driving, but if you do please make sure you have a window open.

Vaping outside may sound like a no-brainer, but you have to be aware of people around you. Whether you're waiting for the bus or you're outside of a pub with a drink, always be mindful of who's nearby. It may not be harmful, but that doesn't mean everyone shares your enthusiasm for vaping. A quick courtesy check will do the trick, or you could go somewhere more secluded.

If you're in venues like cinemas, theatres or arenas, you should think twice about vaping. These are places where you're nearly always in very close proximity to people, so vaping would be disrespectful and an invasion of their space. Not to mention the thick clouds that could obscure their view. We'd advise against it, unless you somehow manage to clear it with everyone in the room!

What is stealth vaping?

Stealth vaping is exactly what it sounds like. You keep your vape kit hidden and chose a low cloud set up in order to not draw attention to yourself. A good tip for stealth vaping is inhaling long and deep and holding the vapor in your lungs for longer than usual - when you exhale the cloud will be far less visible. The etiquette around stealth vaping isn't fully clear, but if you're using it as a way of dodging the rules by vaping in a place you shouldn't be vaping, that's obviously wrong. It doesn't just harm you, it harms the vaping community and makes us look bad, and you're likely to get chastised by non-vapers and vapers alike. A better use of stealth vaping is when you're somewhere you're allowed to vape but simply want to keep a low profile so as not to draw attention to yourself - this is fine.
