Most smokers can't give it up cold turkey, and a huge percentage fail their first few attempts to quit. It's seriously difficult. The trouble with tobacco
Tobacco is that awful stuff that makes you cough every morning after years of smoking. It turns your lungs black and it stains the walls, and it leaves a dirty, lingering smell that nobody likes. What's more, in can affect those around you and dramatically increase risks of lung and throat cancer. You're right to want to quit. The thing is, you don't have to give up the act of inhaling recreationally to do get away from all of that. You don't even have to give up nicotine!
Vaping to quit smoking
Vaping sometimes seems too good to be true. For starters, it's completely tobacco free. You can get an excellent starter vaping kit for less than $60 and get a supply of e-juice with nictone content that closely resembles what you're used to getting from your favourite brand of cigarettes. This means your body will still get the nicotine it craves without the harmful effects of the tobacco or the lingering smell that goes with it.
Smoking it behavioural. It's a habit that's hard to break. If you've smoked for decades, suddenly not doing it will be almost impossible. Vaping helps in this regard too, by allowing you to maintain your rituals of post-dinner smokes, cigeratte breaks at work and having a cig with your morning coffee - only without the cigarette. A vape kit still affords you the 'act' of taking a draw and getting that hit, but without damaging your lungs to the extent tobacco would.
Over time, you can even choose to lessen the potency of nicotine in your e-juice to gradually wean your body off the addictive substance. This is something that's far easier to achieve with vaping (where nicotine intake can be modified) than simply cutting down the number of cigarettes you smoke.
Things to look out for
There's no doubt that vaping is an excellent vehicle for quitting cigarattes, but you should be mindful of a few things before you get started on your new year's resolution proper. Above all else, get your nictone levels right. When choosing an e-juice for the first time it's easy to get swept up in flavours and effects, but if you're a smoker looking to gradually make the jump to vaping, you need to pay attention to nicotine. Start off with too much, and you're going to become more dependant on your vape kit than you were on cigarettes (we want to vape for fun, not because we have to, right?). On the other hand, too little can make sticking to the vape kit really hard, and you'll either vape too heavily and get some uncomfortable dry hits as you 'chase the hit' or you'll simply revert to cigarettes. Do a bit of research around your favourite brand of cigarette and try and find an e-juice that matches its nicotine content.
