Vaping 101: What you need to know about vape juice

Vaping is soaring in popularity. Whether it's a vehicle to quit smoking or a relaxing hobby that people are picking up, more and more people are doing it every day. It stands to reason that searches for various questions online are through the roof,and we've noticed that most of them around the many vape juice or e-juice varieties that are available. What is e-juice? What's in it? Is it safe? Which one should you pick? If, as a beginner vaper, you've asked yourself any of these questions, read on.

What's in vape juice?

Every vape juice on the market consists of 3 key components: Propylene Glycol (PG), Vegetable Glycerin (VG), and your choice of flavouring. The majority of liquids you'll find will be PG based, but there are some VG alternatives for those with alergies to PG. Of course, if you're looking for that nicotine hit or are trying to ease yourself off cigarettes, you may also look for nicotine another potential ingredient. You'll be pleased to know that both PG and VG have been deemed perfectly safe by the FDA (food and drug administration).

Can vape juice help you quit smoking?

This is one of the more common questions for new vapers, as so many of them are wannabe ex-smokers. The strength of your vape juice is really governed by the amount of nicotine present, and there are many different 'strengths' on the market to choose from. We would recommend selecting a strength that matches what you would usually smoke in your favourite brand of cigarettes, then gradually reduce the strength of your vape juice over time. Thousands of people have managed to say goodbye to tobacco-ridden cigarettes in this way, and Public Health England have even gone as far as to say that vaping is 95% less harmful than smoking cigarettes - good move!

Is vape juice safe?

As we mentioned before, all e-liquids are FDA approved and have been rigorously tested. While the relative benefits (or harm) of vaping are still hotly contested in some circles, the general consensus among leading health authorities is that vaping and e-liquids have no immediate health or safety concerns. There are literally thousands of places to buy vape juice these days, both online and on the high street. Combined with the countless varieties, strengths and flavours available, this can be rather daunting for those new to the world of vaping. While following guidelines - such as our Vaping 101 guide - and researching online might be a good place to start, we honestly recommend simply trying them for yourself. Pick a reputable retailer, check the reviews, and ask around if you can. Vape juice is quite affordable and you can often get multipacks to try various flavours, so don't be afraid to mix things up at the beginning to find what works for you (just remember to clean your tank in between!).
