If you keep up with current affairs you've probably heard a lot in the new recently about vaping. Some scientific bodies have claimed that it's 95% less harmful than tobacco and an excellent alternative to cigarettes. Others denounce vaping, with New York state going as far as banning it in public spaces. The truth is, vaping is a relatively new trend that we don't know too much about at the moment. Two things we do for sure are that, one - it's nowhere near as harmful as drinking or smoking and is FDA approved, and two - it's becoming extremely popular. One reason for that is modding.
Vaping isn't just like picking up a cigeratte and taking a draw. There's a lot more to it. The entire experience can be tailored to your liking using different components, flavours and setups. As the technology improves are more money is invested in vaping as a hobby, things just get better and better, and vapers are finding new ways to mod their experience and achieve that perfect hit of flavour. But what are vape mods and why have they taken off in such a huge way?
What are vape mods?
Mods do what they say on the tin - they modify the vaping experience. Over time, the term 'mod' has evolved to basically refer to any vaping set up that uses mods. An experienced vaper will refer to their whole kit as a 'vape mod' and will take it everywhere with them. It does take a little bit of research to understand how mods work and be able to use them to their fullest potential though. By far one of the most impressive attributes of vape mods is that they don't use any electrical power to vaporize, allowing the battery to fire the coil at your chosen temperature all the time. In this way, you can produce huge plumes and lots of flavour! Here's a quick breakdown of mod components:
Vape Battery
Probably the most important part of any mod device, the battery can make or break your vaping experience. The battery will have an immediate impact on how the atomizer performs, making for a stronger (or weaker) vape. Most mod batteries are seperate and detatchable, allowing you to really mix it up and experiment, perhaps picking up the much lauded Lithium Ion 18650 which is the first choice for many vapers. Smaller mods sometimes have built-in batteries, like our very own Target Mini. These are less customisable, but provide a great off-the-shelf experience if you're looking for convenience.
Vape Tank
Your tank holds your e-juice. It should be cleaned regularly and well looked after in order to maintain a good vaping experience. Most vapers will use a rebuildable tank atomizer (or RTA) which can save time, particularly if you like to switch between flavours regularly. If you want strong flavour and dripping is your thing, a rebuildable dripping atomizer (or RDA) is what you want. An RDA lets you drip directly onto the coil conveniently for maximum flavour.
Last but not least, the Coil
The coil is the beating heart of your vape kit. It does the very important work of vaporizing your e-juice and giving you the hit, flavour and experience you want. Some modders will want to build their own coils and tailor them to their exact specifications, whereas others will want to find reliable and consistant coils they can use time and time again.
